The Ethical Funds Difference – Corporate Engagement

You can’t change a company you don’t have a stake in

Their comprehensive corporate engagement program is the most extensive of its kind in Canada. Every fall they choose approximately 50 companies held in their funds to be part of their focus list for the coming years. They work directly with those companies to improve their environmental, social, and governance practices.

Three strategies they use to encourage and affect change are:

  1. DIALOGUE - Ethical Funds engages directly with company management and boards of directors to encourage improvements in identified areas of environmental, social and governance risk.

  2. SHAREHOLDER RESOLUTION - We seek the views and support of other shareholders and file resolutions for consideration at annual general meetings.

  3. PROXY VOTING - We vote in accordance with the changes we are encouraging in environmental, social and governance practices.
